Private Property-Miners Drillers-Ranchers-Terrorists-DHS

On the surface the private property battles in Oregon and Nevada seem to be between ranchers and the Bureau of Land Management. 

That’s on the surface. 

“I wonder when hunters and anglers in the West are finally going to take to the streets.
For 30 years, a handful of special interests has been trying to steal the public’s forests and rangelands. The faces of the Sagebrush Rebellion are shirttail bandits like Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who has spent a lifetime raping public rangeland in southern Nevada and has flouted federal law and court orders for the better part of 20 years, but Bundy and his confederates couldn’t get news coverage next to the comic strips in the Pahrump, Nevada, Valley Times if it weren’t for the potent financial, political, and legal backing they get from a much different band of activists — the billionaire supporters of organizations like the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). 

With the big money behind it, the Sagebrush Rebellion simply won’t die.

Republicans support miners & drillers. Like the Koch brothers and Exxon Mobil. 

In turn the Koch brothers & Exxon Mobil insure the Republicans win elections. 

Mineral extraction industries want ownership of Federal lands transferred to them.

"Sovereign Citizen Patriots" want Federal land transferred to private property owners called ranchers. 

But the big money behind the private property movement is mining and drilling companies. 

Sovereign Citizens like the Bundys are, like Sovereign Citizen Timothy McVeigh and the murderers of Arkansas State Troopers Evans and Paudert, terrorists. 

The reason Republicans call the Bundys "patriots" and not terrorists, has little to do with ranching and a lot to do with the mineral extraction industries. 

The DHS stopped investigating domestic terrorism at the request of Republicans. But it was really stopped by their mineral extraction financiers. 

That leaves us with Republicans and Fox News supporting Sovereign Citizen terrorists in Oregon.  Do Republicans and Fox News also support the Oklahoma City bombing and numerous other Sovereign Citizen terrorist attacks? 

Maybe Republican's support of terrorism will stop at the next Sovereign Citizen mass murder, maybe not. 

The West ain't all cowboys with assault rifles

We have Bundy Sovereign Citizen fruitcakes in Pennsylvania Our laws keep their guns holstered.

People out west are the same as east coast people.

They have gay pride parades, 3 Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, a symphony orchestra and opera house in Bozeman, Montana.

Sovereign Citizens and their resource extraction GOP pals want to privatize Yellowstone. 

What they don't have in the east is a place like Yellowstone Park.

In 1980 people who got outside noticed global warming. Now it's people that look out of windows.

Me and my flyfishing buddies could see the effects of global warming in the 1980s. 

We told fishermen who drove all night for a shot at huge trout coming up for the Brown Drake hatch on the Upper Delaware that it ended the week before. 

We watched Pennsylvania streams dry up. We took the water temperature for free oxygen content vital to aquatic life. 

Back then Republicans & James Watt were busy giving away federal land to drilling companies. 

Republicans still busy themselves giving public land and offshore waters to drillers and miners. 

There's a change. Most people around the world notice global warming. Even people whose outdoor experience is looking out of windows see the effects of global warming. 

Republicans changed too. Now they are full rabies anti-environment anti-science global warming deniers. 

"You stand in the mist and roar of Snoqualmie Falls, more than 100 feet higher than Niagara, and feel the liquid power of the Cascade Mountains crashing down. The photographers in this video know their stuff very well.

This video starts off slowly. Unless you are interested in photography you will click away. 

Back in the day I roamed Philly with a Nikon F. There was no name for the photography I did back then, now it's called "street photography". 

I always had the camera by my side. I was known as the guy with that dammed camera. 

I walked small streets and alleys just like the guys in the video. I felt safe because I could run fast. It was in an alley in North Philly when I realized maybe that was an illusion. A scary looking guy with one eye stood just in front of me saying "I got a gun." He was a cop in plain clothes. The gun was pointed at a Puerto Rican guy who had a radio with a dangling cord under his arm.

I hung out with students and friends that went to the PA Academy of Fine Arts & some TV news cameramen. I worked in commercial advertising photography studios & the University of PA Museum. 

Some friends were involved in Vietnam War protests. I knew Father John McNamee (Diary of a City Priest). I have a few photos of Dave Lynch. Early South Street, Earth Day, a lot of good photo opportunities. A lot happening then even in the relatively sleepy town of Philadelphia. 

I would still be doing "street photography" but I can't walk very well right now. 

These guys know what they are doing. I like their thought processes. Watch the video to see what I mean. 

The environmental movement is moving to a moral issue.

Climate change and environmental issues were always a moral and social issue, but sometimes it seemed to be more about trees and bears.

We had 2 instances of environmental racism in Coatesville. Maybe I should say attempted environmental racism. 

The first was the gas fired electric power plant proposed by then Coatesville City Manager Harry Walker.  

The second was the proponent fracking chemical plant. 

Both industries targeted a poor community that is about 1/2 minority, the City of Coatesville. What is and should be disturbing to our black community is that those industries select black people as their spokespersons to sell a toxic industry to black communities. 

High toxin emitting industries disproportionately are put in low income and minority communities. Those industries often promise jobs that often never materialize.
