Tiger Mosquitos in Coatesville. PA

Aedes Albopictus

One of these girls landed on my hand. I was in my back yard in Coatesville. They bite in the daytime. If  you see one check around your home for any little thing that will hold water. They prefer things like lids and cans with water in them. They shy away from larger pools of water because their larvae have no competition in a soda can. Unlike some other mosquitoes they fly less than 200 meters.

The article below states  that they are a vector for West Nile Virus. My neighbor who worked for the EPA checking for West Nile said they are not as big of a West Nile Virus threat than some other mosquitoes.
